Year 6 National Gallery Trip

Year 6 National Gallery Trip

“On the 31st January my class in Year 6 visited the National Gallery. When we arrived, a lovely guide greeted us at the entrance and began our tour of the gallery. Firstly, she took us upstairs and led us around a few rooms. She showed us various different landscape and portrait paintings and informed us about who painted them, then she let us think about what they meant before actually telling us and finally she told us how the different colours were created in that time. We were then shown to my new favourite painting ‘Baccus and Ariadne’, by Titian. This painting is based on a classic I read recently from the school library called Theseus and the Minotaur; this painting is based on the part where Theseus left Ariadne on the island and Baccus (the God of wine) saw her and instantly fell in love. We were later shown around Claude Monet’s gallery and saw many of his paintings based on seasons including another one of my favourites, ‘Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies.’ After that, we looked at one more room and then it was lunch. Once everyone finished eating it was time to leave.”
