Year 6 English – Balanced Argument Writing

Year 6 English – Balanced Argument Writing

Every class studies a range of high-quality texts at our school. They use the texts to explore characters, develop narrative voices and to create our own stories and text.

In Year 6, they have been reading Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. This classic story has given the Year 6 children wonderful opportunities to explore the issues and characters from Victorian England.

“Today, we conducted a balanced argument about whether Oliver Twist should have left the Sowerberry household or not. We did a big class debate where one side of the room argued for Oliver’s decision to become fugitive and the other side of the class gave reasons against. After, we filled in our planning sheet to help up write up our balanced argument later in the week.”
