Year 5 English – Writing in the Style of a Legend

Year 5 English – Writing in the Style of a Legend

“In Year 5 we have been reading ‘Beowulf’ by Michael Morpurgo. We learned what adverbial phrases are and how to use them in our own writing. We wrote our own story based on the version of Beowulf by Morpurgo. Our teacher presented us with his own example so we could share and discuss his ideas. We also learned how to use kennings in our writing, such as ‘wave-tossed’.”

By Ansh, Year 5

“Beowulf is a story about a man debating a cruel monster named Grendel. Some say it’s true and some say’s it’s fiction. In SPaG we have been learning how to use adverbial phrases. These phrases are bits of information that often go at the beginning of a sentence.”

My Beowulf story is about Beowulf’s daughter climbing a mountain to defeat an evil beast named Cellen. The young girl discovers powers and skills along her thrilling adventure. Soon her adventure isknown about across the world!”
