The Royal Festival Hall by Shashank

The Royal Festival Hall by Shashank

On Saturday 16th December 2023, I sang at the Royal Festival Hall. Accompanied by my own choir (the London Youth Choir), the London Philharmonic Choir and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, I sang many Christmas classics. Not just that, I sang a solo for the opening piece of the concert.

Having stepped into the Royal Festival Hall for the very first time, I was in awe of how big the hall was. During my big moment, my nerves were tingling with anxiety. Once the presenter YolanDa Brown said my name, I felt pressure. It was all down to me! As I started, my voice cracked. It was nerve wrecking! With my heart pounding like a drum, I sang my way through the very first verse of the Christmas classic, Once in Royal David’s City. After I was through, I was relieved that my solo was finished. At the end of the festive favourite, I got a thunderous round of applause!!! As the clock went by, we went on to sign more carols such as Ding Dong Merrily on High. I felt so proud when members of the London Philharmonic choir and London Philharmonic orchestra praised me for my solo. My teacher/conductor Ben was extremely proud too, he said. This concert was the biggest performance of my life, and I came back from it so tired that all I wanted to do was head home and curl up in my bed!

Two days later, I got to experience it all once again, as we performed at the Royal College of Music on Monday 18th December 2023, except this time I didn’t have to perform a solo!
