Remembrance Day 2016

Remembrance Day 2016

This morning Year 6 took part in a quiet reflective moment as part of Remembrance Day in the Memorial Gardens. All the Year 6 volunteers were greatly appreciated. Freddie Matthews rang the bell three times at 11 am. Megan Clifton and George Aldridge carried the school wreath, while Year 4 children Annabelle May and Reuben Ling carried a wreath that members of 4A created this week. Lastly, a special thank you goes to all the members of the Time Travellers group who have been selling poppies and other items outside school over the last two weeks, you have done an excellent job.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields
