Guide Dog Puppy in Training Visits Churchfields

On 6th March, my mum and I brought our black Labrador Guide Dog puppy, Sidney, to meet 4R. I told the class about him and answered many interesting questions.

Sidney is now one year old and we got him when he was nine weeks old. While he is with us, we are training him to sit, lie down and to come to us. We take him for walks to Tesco and coffee shops to get him used to the environment around him.

Guide Dogs do a very important job. They give blind people the freedom to do many things they couldn’t do on their own. In 2023, over 1,000 people were on the waiting list for a Guide Dog.

After a year, dogs like Sidney go to Guide Dog school. Here, they learn to cross the road, sit and wait, and walk with a harness. It takes about a year to complete the course.

I am proud to be part of Sidney’s training. When he leaves us, I will feel upset but also joyous because I know he will be helping others.
