The Fellowship of the Ring

by J.R.R. Tolkien

My favourite collection of books is by far the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which I read for the first time when I was in Year 6. Tolkien begins his epic fantasy in The Fellowship of the Ring, drawing the reader into the amazing, complex world of Middle Earth. Sauron, the dark lord, seeks to rule Middle Earth and all those who live there. All he is missing is the One Ring, which has fallen into the unsuspecting hands of a young hobbit, Frodo Baggins. Along with nine companions, (including hobbits, elves, dwarves and men) Frodo embarks on a perilous journey through Middle Earth to Mount Doom – the only place where the One Ring can be destroyed. An epic tale of magic, heroism, friendship and adventure, The Fellowship of the Ring is a truly spectacular book that has earned it’s place as a literacy classic among many generations of readers.
