Excavating Egypt

Excavating Egypt

Songs, dance and drama are not the usual outcomes we would expect of a history topic but over the Spring Term, Year 5 broke the mould. While studying the marvels of Ancient Egyptian civilisation through history lessons where they examined sources and pondered the legacy of ancient inventors, Year 5 also explored links with creative and performing arts, DT and English.

In music, children wrote their own songs to accompany historical events, such as a pharaoh’s procession, using ukuleles, horns, recorders and percussion while Redbridge Drama Centre delivered workshops to create performances on the mysteries of pyramids and Miss Bradley taught children to ‘Walk Like an Egyptian.’ At the end of the project, families and friends enjoyed an Egyptian extravaganza in the hall and art & design exhibitions in the classrooms curated by the pupils themselves.
