Year 6 Gurdwara Trip
Year 6 pupils had the opportunity of visiting The Khalsa Jantha – a Sikh Gurdwara and place of worship – in west London. The aim of the trip was to discover more about how Sikhs use the Gurdwara, the importance of the Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh Holy text) and to experience the Langar meal.
The Gurdwara were incredibly welcoming and upon arrival, pupils demonstrated respect to the temple by removing shoes and covering heads with a traditional Sikh scarf. We then entered the main hall, where pupils could see and hear readings the Guru Granth sahib. After learning how Sikhs worship within the Gurdwara, the volunteers at the temple provided a shared lunch, known as a langar, where pupils enjoyed a lentil curry with fruit. All pupils had a great day that provided useful understanding of the significance of a Gurdwara.
