Year 5 Space Dome
This half term, as their Science topic, Year 5 have been studying Space. In addition to the excellent workshop they attended at the Natural History Museum, they were lucky enough to have the whole of the night sky visit them in the school hall. The Space Dome is a giant inflatable igloo with a small zipped-up doorway.
Once the children are inside and seated, the journey to far-flung galaxies can begin. A projector in the centre of the dome projects images of all of the beauty of the heavens above your head. Due to the concave shape, it feels as if you are truly immersed in the wonders around you.
This has supported children’s learning about the constellations and the voyages astronauts have undertaken to the moon and to the International Space Station. Who knows, could one of the children sitting in that hall one day step foot on Mars?
