Spreading the Churchfields’ Message
During September I was invited to speak at two conferences spreading the good practice that we are doing within Churchfields. I spoke to a number of other teachers from a range of schools in both Manchester and London sharing with them the new innovations we have here including: The Reading Express; The Information Centres and how we teach Guided Reading.
The innovative Information Centres have replaced the traditional reading corners. Here the children get the opportunity to have a hands on learning experience of all topics and subjects. The aim is to make them like a mini museum with artefacts and lots of nonfiction information that will allow children an immersive experience in topics. They have proved to be very popular among the children.
The conference also allowed me the opportunity to meet eminent researchers and educational advisors who work with schools nationally. I shared ideas and what we are doing at Churchfields with Bob Cox – an award winning author within the educational resource category at the National Awards- who is a keen advocate of our approach to English.
