Regional Champions

Regional Champions

Following on from the success of qualification from the local tournament in Redbridge, Churchfields next had to face the challenge of the regional finals. The boys were briefed and given their game plan. They knew expectations were high but Miss Brown had great confidence and faith in them. The team clearly delivered and did not disappoint. the squad played well and produced some consistent football which was matched by exemplary behaviour off the pitch.

Here are the group results:
Churchfields 1 – 0 Fairhouse
Churchfields 1 – 1 Grafton
Churchfields 3 – 0 Aldersbrook
Curchfields 2 – 0 George Carey

These results earned the team the accolade as going through as table toppers ensuring them a quarter final draw against Clockhouse Primary, Havering. The team showed composure and confidence throughout the matchas they breezed through to the semi-finals with a 2 – 0 win.

As Churchfields came one step closer they had to hold their nerve as in the dying seconds of the semi-final against Rosette Primary they conceded a penalty. The penalty was saved by Sam, which meant this match went to penalties and sudden death. The team showed great courage and supported one another as one by one they stepped up to the spot. The team went through to the final in dramatic fashion, and were now faced with the prospect that they were 12 minutes away from the National Finals. The squad regrouped gain and Miss Brown reminded the boys about how well they had played throughout the day under pressure and not to change anything, but to stick to task.

Our opponents were Vallence Primary School from Dagenham. Churchfields played with confidence, flair and style and were a joy to watch. They looked relaxed and dealt well with any attack that approached, tackling the ball skillfully and cleanly. They passed the ball around with confidence, skill and elegance. The boys won the match 2 – 0 and booked themselves a place in the National Finals which will be held at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium in May. Churchfields will be there in the Midlands representing West ham United.

Eighty teams from schools in east London and Essex entered the competition and our eight boys from Churchfields will now go on to play teams from all the Premiership Clubs including Man City and Man Utd at the Nationals. Miss Brown is extremely proud of the boys and would like to thank the parents, staff and children of Churchfields for their continued support.
