We are going to Wolves

We are going to Wolves

Having already qualified as area winners, Churchfields Boys’ Football Team travelled to the West Ham United Foundations HQ in Beckton for the regional finals.

Twenty top-class teams were competing to see who would be representing West Ham United at the Under-11 National Premier League Primary Stars Finals, which this year will be hosted by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The team had high hopes as they were determined to retain the title they won last year which took them to the finals at Leicester City.

To qualify for the national finals for two consecutive years would be an incredible achievement!

Here are our group results:

Churchfields 2-1 Manorfields
Churchfields 1-0 St. Mary St Michaels Churchfields 3-0 Ripple
Churchfields 3-0 Valance St. George

Topping the group saw us breeze into the quarter finals which we won 3-0 against Greenstead.

In the semi final, a controversial penalty was awarded to our opponents in extra time and the dying seconds of the match… luckily for us it was blasted wide! With the scores locked in a stalemate at 0-0 it was sudden death penalties. It was tense and nerve-wracking as each team were scoring and emotions were running high at 4-4.

Our opponents missed their fifth penalty… the task was simple: score our next penalty and we are through to the final and then… we scored!

We were now just twelve minutes away from reaching the national finals for the second year running and our opponents were the team that we had played in our first match, Manorfields, who had also played some great football throughout the day.

Throughout the day it was clear to see that the team rose in confidence and their skill level was truly on another level.

The boys took immediate control of the final and were 3-0 up at half time and at that point the dream was about to  become a reality. As the final whistle went, there were tears of joy and celebration!

Well done boys, Miss Brown, the staff, the children of Churchfields, and parents are all very proud of you.
