Our School Library
The library is a special place within Churchfields Junior School where the children love visiting to change books. It is unique in its layout, mirroring the innovative Reading Express with the books arranged by genres. It is constantly being updated and improved to ensure it has high quality books from a range of genres as well as a range of cultures. The result is that children love visiting it and discussing books with their friends. Every day the children have the opportunity to visit and change their books and are supported by a knowledgeable librarian who is present every day to advise the children; this is a rarity for a primary school and allows the children to receive many recommendations about books they would enjoy.
We have also this year introduced teacher recommendations of high quality fiction texts that have proven very popular with the children. There are weekly ‘books of the week’ from teachers as well as teacher’s top five books. In addition to these books, on the central staircase there is a display of a number of high quality books suitable for KS2. These books, which the children see every day, provide conversation between the children as well as a reference point for the books we would like children to read. These are from a range of genres and all the books are present within the library. The library has thousands of high quality fiction books from 16 genres and is a unique place within the Junior School. We hope all your children enjoy it as much as the teachers do.
