5Ed perform The Cycle of Harvest

The main idea for the chorus of this song came from the half-rhyme ‘Grow wheat, row, and reap’. This rhyme seemed to suit a syncopated and swung rhythm. This gave the song a jazzy feel. We also used this rhyme for our instrumental introduction.

5K perform Our Celebration Will Begin

The verse of this song came from the lyrics, ’In autumn, we gather the crops’. The rest after ‘autumn’ and a natural swung rhythm really set the feel of this song. The immortal lines, ‘All the crops in summer are making winter funner’ set the whole tone for the chorus as they seemed to immediately suggest a strong chromatic melodic idea to the class.
