We are the super Healthy Eaters and our job is to help educate both the school and community more about having a healthier lifestyle. This would include what consists of a balanced diet and what activities you could do.

What We Do
As members of the healthy eating group, we will:
- Discuss different diets to see how suitable they are.
- Discuss the different food groups and see what we have already included in our diets.
- Make recommendations to our school peers on what foods they could include in their diet.
- Create leaflets and posters about healthy eating.
What’s in a healthy packed lunch?
A child at school should have about a third of their daily nutrient requirements at lunchtime. This means they need food that is going to provide them with enough energy, protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.
A healthy packed lunch should contain a mix of foods from the EatWell Plate. The EatWell Plate shows how much should be eaten from each of the 5 food groups.
A great packed lunch contains:
- A starchy food, such as bread, rolls, pitta bread, rice, noodles. These foods are good for children to fill up on.
- A good source of protein, iron and zinc such as meat, fish, beans, nuts or eggs.
- A good source of calcium such as milk, cheese, yoghurt or fromage frais.
- One portion of fruit and one portion of vegetable or salad to provide all the other vitamins and minerals. A piece of fruit could be a 100% juice or a piece of fresh fruit or dried fruit. A piece of vegetable could be a fresh vegetables such as carrot sticks or salad.
No single food contains all the essential nutrients the body needs to be healthy and function efficiently so it is important that the content of the packed lunch is varied.
What about snacks such as crisps, cakes, pastries and sweets?
These foods should not be included in a school packed lunch. Instead, only be given occasionally at home. Children will then appreciate them more.
If these foods are included in packed lunches they might eat these first and not have the appetite to eat the other foods that will provide them with the important nutrients they need to grow and develop, be healthy and active.
I wanted to join Healthy Eating because I like strawberries and cherries and would like to include more of these in our school. I also am interested in adapting the school dinner menu to suit our pupils’ needs.
I want to join healthy eating because my favourite things are greens and I also like bananas.
I like different fruit and vegetables and would like more chances to try them in school and out of school. I would like to have a look at some recipes that I can use to be healthier and share these with my class.
I wanted to be in healthy Eating because I want to improve school dinners. My favourite fruits are watermelon, mango and peaches and I would like more of my friends to eat these fruits in school.
I wanted to be in Healthy Eating because I love fruit. I’m always eating it at home. It tastes nice and is good for you.
Healthy Eating Pupil Leadership was my first choice because I want to be healthier.
I want to join Healthy Eating because I wanted to change some of the school dinners. My favourite fruit is mango and all types of melons. I want to see more of this at Chuchfields.
Healthy Eating is important and I like strawberries, oranges and other fruit so I think I could be a good role model to others to be just like me and eat lots of fruit too.
I am really interested in Healthy Eating. I think it’s really important that we all eat well and I want to show people that eating healthily can be easy and fun!
I would like to help make everyone healthier and help one another. This is important to me and easy to do through fruit and vegetables.
I wanted to join healthy eating because healthy food is my favourite and I want to help people get healthier. Also I would like to stop people eating sugary food and drinking sugary drinks.
