Churchfields represent Redbridge at the London Youth Games
As our fantastic Year Six football team were already entered into a competition at Borehamwood, a combined Year 5 and 6 team were given the opportunity to represent the London Borough of Redbridge at the London Youth Games. Here they tested their skills against the best schools from another 31 London boroughs. The standard of competition was undoubtedly high.
Things got off to a shaky start as the team lost their first group game 2-0. However, they quickly improved and won their next game by the same scoreline. This set them up for a final group game that they couldn’t afford to lose. After resolute defending, they held firm to draw 0-0 and make their way through to the second group stage.
For a team that had not previously played together and fielded so many younger players, this was a huge achievement!
After the first group stage, a second group stage commenced. Unknown at the time, Churchfields were drawn into a group with three other teams who would all eventually finish in the top 5 of the competition. The team fought hard but unfortunately exited the competition at this stage.
Overall, it was an excellent performance and Churchfields earned Redbridge a top 14 finish across the whole of London. It was a fantastic experience and bodes well for next year’s football team.
