5W ‘Barber’s Pole’

5W – Barber’s Pole

Developing ‘circling’ with inner and outer circles moving in opposite directions. A very traditional dance that appears wherever there are Maypoles. John Ruskin gave it this name because, with Red & White ribbons, it resembles a Barber’s Pole, the colours signifying blood and flesh which were the main components of the barber surgeon’s trade.
